Kelly Hu Runs with the Reefs

Kelly Hu is back home in Honolulu this week shooting an episode of the NBC show Las Vegas and also doing some media promos for a December fundraiser she’s co-hosting for Reef Check Hawai’i.
The fundraiser is Vonage’s Run with the Reefs, a luau on Dec. 11 at the Sheraton Waikiki held in conjunction with the Honolulu Marathon. Kelly is co-hosting the event with Olympian Carl Lewis. Luau special guests will also include Maggie Q, Christian Campbell, Kelly Slater, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Jason Scott Lee, Lisa Ling and Rob Schneider.
“Having grown up in Hawai’i, I have always had an appreciation for the ocean and coral reefs” said Kelly. “Hawai’i is home to over 85 percent of the coral reefs in the United States. Sadly, like most of the coral reefs around the world, Hawai’i's reefs are in danger due to many factors including pollution, over fishing and global warming.
“Reef Check Hawai’i is dedicated to protecting our beautiful reefs that provide homes to thousands of creatures and educating the public about the value of coral reefs and the crisis facing them.”
Kelly is looking for corporate sponsors for the event, which will raise money to initially produce a PSA to be shown on HNL-bound airlines. The video will share with visitors tips on safe diving and information on the coral reef crisis. She eventually hopes to see Reef Check programs in every school in Hawai’i so we can create a generation of responsible citizens who share a respect for the reefs and the environment as a whole.

UPDATE AUG. 31: Tickets for Reef Check Hawaii’s Run for the Reefs Luau by Vonage are now on sale! Join Kelly Hu, Carl Lewis, Kelly Slater, Maggie Q, Jason Scott Lee, Jonathan Silverman, Daniel Dae Kim and other celebrity guests on December 11th at the Sheraton Waikiki for a very special fundraising luau benefiting Reef Check Hawaii.
Tickets for the event are $200 for normal admission and $500 for VIP tickets which include a pre-party cocktail and special seating. We will be offering entertainment, gift bags and silent action items including a diamond ring specially designed by Rosalina for Reef Check Hawaii’s Run for the Reefs.
