I emcee’d the 5th Annual Poke Festival at Hukilau in San Francisco this past Saturday. Hundreds turned out for the Hawaiian food, poke contest and the spam musubi eating contest. You’re seeing the backs of my head and of Jeff Cortez, the Spam Musubi Eating King, before the contest started. Jeff lost the crown to Nelden Dyogi of San Francisco, but still shares the record of seven spam musubi in three minutes. Kelly Zubal won the poke contest and is automatically entered into the Aloha Festival’s Poke Contest on Sept. 9 at the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel.
